Achievements of The Dorper in Australia

In its brief history in Australia, already the Dorper has made its mark. With its first appearance at the Perth Royal show carcass competition the breed won first prize on the Hook Heavy and Lightweight carcass plus Champion carcass.

It has also been very well accepted by the butchers and has regularly topped the local yarding at Midland Sale Yards.

Being a non selective grazier, the Dorper has utilised wheat belt stubble converting low quality feed into high quality meat. It presents an opportunity for chemical free lamb in pastoral regions. High fertility in pastoral trails of in excess of 100% over Merinos.

A trial of 25 Dorper / Merino x lambs that were fed Q Lamb pellets for 42 days gave back very encouraging results, with excellent feed conversions to meat, showing and average daily gain of 370 grams.

Average weight in : 26kgs. Average weight out : 44kgs.
